Yogurt

Year to date the yogurt category has seen a growth trend compared to the previous year. YTD dollar sales for yogurt (weeks ending 03.31.2024) are sitting at $2,3B, showing a significant increase of $103M or 4.73% compared to the previous year. This growth is also reflected in the YTD volume sales, which have increased by 4.21% from the previous year. The average number of items per store selling yogurt has also seen a slight increase to 252.8 items, compared to 249.8 items in the previous year. Year to date yogurt trends reveal several key insights into the factors driving these trends, including type, size, and brand. In terms of yogurt type, the data shows that Greek yogurt has experienced significant growth in dollar sales, with a 9.70% increase compared to the previous year. This growth is also reflected in volume sales, with Greek yogurt showing an 11.88% increase in volume compared to the previous year. On the other hand, traditional dairy yogurt has seen a slight decline in both dollar sales and volume sales, indicating a shift in consumer preferences towards Greek yogurt. Chobani and Private Label have benefitted the most from Greek sales increase as both has seen just over double-digit volume growth vs the same time last year. When analyzing yogurt trends by size, it is evident that yogurt products in the 24.01-32oz tubs and 4.01-6oz multi packs size categories have shown notable growth in dollar sales, with increases of 13.06% and 7.54% respectively.
