Driving Export Sales
Filling Processing Gaps: Blimling/Mc Cully Group project in progress CDIC, in collaboration with other CMAB departments, held update meetings with the Blimling/ McCully Group for a “small plant feasibility study ” which intends to ascertain that the availability of one or more, flexible dairy plants would effectively support the diversification of the industry’s product portfolio . The study continues, with CDIC arranging meetings for the consultants and coordinating follow-up on-site visits with engineers.
Diversifying Product Portfolio
Drinkable Yogurts, Kefirs and more – No sugar-added, fiber-enriched CDIC is testing a second round of formulations for new drinkable yogurts, based upon existing products but enhanced with fiber, and designed to provide significantly less/no sugar. The product development is being done at CalPoly, with assistance from CDIC consultants. The products are being tested over their shelf-life of 60 days, and will be screened by sensory analysis professionals in the CalPoly Food Science Department. Drinkable yogurts are a fast-growing category, particularly popular in the Hispanic segment.
Inspired by in-market drinking yogurts, CDIC/CalPoly is developing concepts for “healthier” versions of the products, featuring low/no sugar, and enriched with fibers.
Tech Support for entrepreneurs, Excelerator competitors, Incubator program participants.
CDIC worked with several participants, linking MiTerro to expertise and faculty at CalPoly Pomona for the development of flexible bioplastic materials from milk, and providing technical support to the Regalia Milk Punch team. CDIC continues to support PogBites to help scale-up their award-winning dairy snack, and Hydroscoop for advanced formulations of a “rehydration frozen dessert” delivering natural minerals from milk and electrolytes.
