Packaging
Plastic-free Yogurt Containers: a project to test the feasibility of using new plastic-free containers is in
progress in partnership with CalPoly (packaging department). CDIC organized industry meetings (Petit Pot, Clover Sonoma) for the CalPoly student conducting the research and the project will continue during the school year in collaboration with industry.
Bioplastics from Whey The project consists of producing a compostable bioplastic resin through fermentation of whey permeate. The resin produced was processed by USDA’s Western Laboratory in Albany, CA. to evaluate strength, and need for additives. CDIC staff also attended a meeting at the USDA Albany Lab to share the interests and needs of the California dairy industry, and met with department heads.
