Packaging Innovation
The new phase of fundamental research at UC Davis on bioplastics started. The project is conducted with the USDA Western Laboratory, and supervised by CDRF. It consists of scaling up and optimizing the production of PHBV, a bioplastic which can be used to produce compostable utensils, films and packaging. CDIC coordinated a meeting with Leprino Foods and the researchers to review the techno-economic analysis, and is in the process of conducting a thorough feasibility study for scaling-up the process.
