The Taiwan Ministry of Agriculture(MOA) has made a decision in clearly defining "fresh milk" to between “imported ESL milk” and “domestically - produced fresh milk”, aiming to protect the livelihood of local dairy farmers. Currently, Taiwan does not require detailed labels for fresh milk products with different pasteurizing temperatures and times, making it impossible for consumers to distinguish domestic fresh milk from imported milk with an extended shelf-life. As a result, subsequent to local dairy’s reque st, foreign standards/regulations for labeling fluid milk will be collected, and then based on Taiwan market, labeling on fluid milk products with different pasteurizing temperatures and times, such as fresh milk and ESL milk, will be drafted within a month. This move comes as the 10-year anniversary of the signing of the economic cooperation agreement known as ANZTEC between New Zealand and Taiwan approaches, which is by 2025 will bring a zero tariff advantage to all dairy products from New Zealand, hence, increase competitive pressure to local dairy industry. CMAB- Taiwan met with the U.S Dairy Export Council’s senior management team members on Feb. 27 th to discuss Taiwan dairy market trends, current challenges, and future opportunities. Topics covered include current declining of CA ESL milk import, Taiwan fluid milk import annual quota /tariff adjustment, Taiwan FDA food safety stringent protocols, e.g. exemption of AMS certificate requirements for trade show purposes as well as international marketing programs offered to small to mid-size CMAB processors. USDEC had expressed both their concerns and gratitude toward the Taiwan market potentials, and looked forward to opportunities of future in market collaborations between USDEC and CMAB. Costco Taiwan’s year 2024 Real California Milk dairy products promotional plans for the Cooler and Frozen Departments have been approved by CMAB headquarters. Several waves of in-store demonstrations will be conducted for the “Kirkland Signature” dairy pro ducts such as low moisture part-skim Mozzarella cheese block, vanilla ice cream, and Saputo retail-pack string cheese. All demonstration activities will be executed by Costco Taiwan’s Club Demonstration Services (CDS). CMAB-Taiwan has requested a copy of their demonstration schedule two weeks before the actual activity date as references for monitoring.
