Attracting New Workforce

2023 Internships Five interns worked on projects for CDIC ranging from literature reviews to promotion and preparation for short courses. CDIC was also actively involved with several California processors seeking to hire interns from partner academic institutions, arranging meetings with faculty, food science clubs and individual faculty.

Suppliers Nights – Institute of Food Technologist Southern California

CDIC exhibited, in collaboration with CMAB’s Business Development Team at the Southern California IFT Suppliers Night, March 19. Multiple contacts were made with a record number of regional students, faculty, end users of dairy

products and suppliers of ingredients and equipment.

Strengthening Academic Capacity

CDIC received $200,000 in funding by Dairy Management Inc., to include direct funding of applications and short-courses at CalPoly. This additional funding will also help CDIC build training and tech support capacity across the state at the other campuses which are committed to support undergraduate dairy processing education programs, graduate research and offer training workshops for our existing workforce. CDIC participated in DMI’s Center Directors Meeting on March 13, and attended ADPI’s Dairy Ingredients Technical Conference, March 14-16. – meetings were held with academics from NC State and Cornell to discuss potential future collaborations.

CDIC participated in a meeting of Southern California Universities preparing a large USDA Grant application designed to support food science programs on March 17.
