Projects conducted in March-April focused on assisting agribusiness student teams competing in the campus-wide Innovation Quest at CalPoly. The included a wide range of California-themed gelatos, as well as lactose-free high protein Greek style drinking yogurts.
Vanessi’s Regional Gelato student team developed over 25 variations of their signature gelatos with CalPoly pilot plant staff and CMAB/CDIC. All ingredients and major flavors originate from California.

Fresno State Student Team selected as Finalist in National New Product Competition A student team from Fresno State was selected as semi-finalist for the DMI-funded competition, with an innovative frozen dessert based on cottage cheese and manufactured their final prototypes at the creamery. Finalists will present their final product at the Institute of Food Technologists Meeting in June 2023.
Packaging
Plastic-free Yogurt Containers: a project to test the feasibility of using new plastic-free containers is in the early stage of development, in partnership with CalPoly (food science and packaging departments). CDIC’s role is to identify solutions providers in the packaging industry, support trials on a pre-competitive basis, and facilitate partnerships with processors.
