The first chart below is for TTL US and the second is California. On the left is latest 52 weeks, with the timeframe progressively shorter until the last column, which is the last 4 weeks, through 8-7-22.
Both in CA and for TTL US, cheese, yogurt and frozen novelties are the brightest spots among largely declining dairy categories versus prior year. On the more recent latest twelve and four weeks, natural cheese consumption is slightly up in CA. Butter consumption is down, driven largely by higher prices due to inflation. Yogurt is flat on a 52-week basis, but more recent trends show consumption declines both in CA and across the US. Ice cream is down significantly and most likely driven by higher prices and it’s more discretionary eating occasions. Frozen novelties are doing better than ice cream, likely due to convenience and portion control.
