III. Packaging

25 New Ideas for the Milk Jug

In 2021, CDIC co-funded Phase II of a study (Clemson University) focused on innovation for the Milk Jug. Results of the study were presented to the team and are being evaluated for feasibility and adoption by industry groups. CDIC will further assist with prototype development and testing, for those innovation-focused solutions that offer commercial benefits.

A Packaging Innovation Roadmap

How to identify and remedy “problematic materials” in recycling? What are the most promising research-based solutions and how to prioritize opportunities for innovation in dairy products packaging? In collaboration with Dairy Management Inc., CDIC is seeking to develop a strategic road map that will evaluate and quantify all forms of packaging used in the dairy industry, from rigid materials to films. The objective of the road map will be to develop the business case for impactful potential investments in innovative product, material, or process research in this sector.

IV. Continuing Education

Short-courses CDIC is working with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on the 2022 set of short-courses for the dairy industry. To date, these include:  April 26-27: Artisanal Cheese Making (registration open)  June 28-29: Innovation in Frozen Desserts  September 13-14: Fundamentals and Advanced Unit Operations in Dairy Processing
