ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT Characterization of Dairy Manure
BACKGROUND: A recently completed CDRF-funded project by FoodMinds’ ( California Manure Market Analysis, 2019 ) identified that a better understanding of characteristics of California dairy manure is critical to the development of manure products that will be more utilized by California markets. OBJECTIVE: To identify chemical and physical characteristics of dairy manure streams from commercial dairies located in the Central Valley. INDUSTRY BENEFIT: Findings will better position California dairies to identify if new advanced manure treatment technologies have a potential to work on existing manure streams. It will also identify if manure management changes are preferential for advanced treatment technologies.
