ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Dairy Cares Sustainability Communications & CDQAP Support RESEARCHERS: Michael Boccadoro and Jennifer Bingham TIMELINE: 1 Year BACKGROUND: Since 2001, Dairy Cares has worked to ensure the long-term sustainability of California’s farming families through strategic communication efforts. OBJECTIVE: Continue developing quantitative metrics, delivering key messages to target audiences, and supporting CDQAP’s communications. INDUSTRY BENEFIT: Dairy Cares’ communication efforts will continue to have a positive impact in promoting beneficial partnerships between dairy farmers, state agencies, researchers, and other key stakeholders throughout the state. The industry will continue to benefit from the development of positive quantitative metrics and quality communications materials, to demonstrate how California’s dairy farmers are leading the world in sustainable dairy farm practices. ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY CDQAP: Environmental, Animal Care and Food Safety Outreach RESEARCHERS: Michael Payne and Deanne Meyer, UC Davis Denise Mullinax, CDQAP TIMELINE: 1 Year BACKGROUND: This proposal represents 2019 support for producer-directed, university-assisted outreach for producers and industry to include environmental stewardship, animal health & care, food safety and security. It builds on the 20-year success of the CDQAP. OBJECTIVE: Highlighted outreach for 2019 includes: Regional Boards 1,2 & 5 & CVDRMP. Environmental certification and fee reductions continue. Leveraged collaborations with California Beef Council, the national FARM program, as well as DMI, the FBI and local sheriff's offices. INDUSTRY BENEFIT: Free, universal access to the most current science-based management practices and compliance assistance, specific to California industry needs. Positive public messaging.
