ADDITIONAL PROJECTS MANAGED BY CDRF, FUNDED BY OTHER OUTSIDE SOURCES, 2023-2028: $85,942,750 2023 - 2028 USDA Partnership for Climate-Smart Commodities,
Dairy PLUS Program, and Measurement Funding granted by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA): $85,000,000 CDRF receives direct and in-direct reimbursements for this project, resulting in a positive return. The Dairy PLUS Program is a new program under California Department of Food and Agriculture’s (CDFA)
Office of Environmental Farming and Innovation (OEFI) that will award competitive grants to California dairy farms for the implementation of advanced manure management practices that reduce both methane emissions and nutrient surplus. CDRF (along with CDFA, the University of California, Dairy Cares, and several other California dairy organizations) was awarded up to $85 million in funding by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) under the Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities program in 2022. Over the next several years, this project will provide incentives to producers to adopt advanced climate-smart manure management practices along with outreach and technical assistance.
Project goals also include the measurement of green-house gas and nitrogen benefits associated with implemented practices and the development of markets for climate-smart commodities.
See our Climate-Smart Grants page at cdrf.org or the CDFA-OEFI site at cdfa.ca.gov/oefi/dairyplus.
2024 Splash! Milk Science Update Funding granted by the International Milk Genomics Consortium: $47,497 Researcher: Dr. Carl Whithaus, UC Davis Writing Program CDRF receives a management fee from the IMGC, resulting in a positive return.
Each year, over 20,000 new scientific articles are published and indexed with the keyword, “milk” in the major medical and agricultural databases. Given the pace of scientific progress, it is extremely difficult to keep up to date with the latest developments in milk genomics and human health. SPLASH! Milk Science Update pro vides a bi-monthly e-newsletter, with content mirrored on the IMGC website, to highlight emerging research trends in the scientific research literature and to translate the content of those articles for the non-expert.
