Highlights/Summary from USDEC Board Meeting The US has increased exports of cheese to Singapore by 55% this year. US Cheese exports to Korea have grown by 7% The USMCA is being discussed by both parties, hopefully to be passed this year The US-Japan trade agreement is an ongoing negotiation which does not require approval of Congress to implement the dairy portion of the agreement. US Cheese sales to Japan are expected to grow 4% per year for the next 10 years. Japan only has enough milk production for fluid milk and will need to purchase all other dairy needs over the next 5 years. USDEC will be opening a US Center for Dairy Excellence in March 2020 to be located in Singapore. Costco opened their first store in China and is doing $1.6 million (USD) per day in sales, prompting the planning for a second store in Shanghai. Mexico is requiring front of label warnings for sugar content and other ingredients Halal certification is becoming more prominent not only in Indonesia, but also Malaysia, S. Korea and Japan. USDEC encourages processors to focus on sustainability of sourcing, packaging and building a story to use overseas.
