International Update
• US cheese exports jumped to 65 million pounds in November, 5 million pounds (8%) more than in October and 17% more than last year. A nearly 7-million pound jump in sales to Mexico from October to November (to 19 million total) helped drive growth. Through November, US cheese exports topped 691 million pounds year-to-date —up 22% year-over-year and accounting for roughly 6% of US cheese output. • November NDM/SMP exports reached 121 million pounds—up 7% from October to the highest monthly volume since May. Outbound shipments topped prior year levels by about 1%, thanks in part to a 6 million pound gain in volume to Mexico. Total NDM/SMP exports reached 1,203 million pounds year-to-date— at with 2016 levels. Shipments to Mexico over the same period, however, increased 1% to 561 million pounds. • Net butter trade turned positive again in November, with a half-million pounds more butter exported than imported. Total exports reached 5.6 million pounds, up 29% from October. Sales to Egypt totaled 1.5 million pounds, up 1 million pounds from October, helping set the pace. (Blimling)
